About Dentures

Dentures are synthetic teeth that can fill in large gaps in your smile or replace all of your teeth at once. Depending on your needs, you can choose from several type of restorations.

A traditional full denture replaces your entire upper or lower dental arch. It is supported by an acrylic, gum-colored base that sits snugly around your gums. Denture adhesive and suction helps to keep the new teeth in place. Thanks to advanced fabrication techniques, today’s dentures fit better and look more natural than ever before.

A traditional partial denture replaces several adjacent teeth. Like a full denture, it has an acrylic, gum-colored base. Small, carefully concealed metal clasps connect to the adjacent natural teeth and hold the denture in place.

An implant-supported denture offers a high degree of stability and a lifelike appearance. Dr. Hacker will surgically place several small implant posts in the jaw to create a stable base for this permanent restoration. Implants can support a full or partial denture.

The Fabrication Process

Implant and Family Dentistry will use extremely precise techniques to ensure that you receive a highly lifelike denture that fits comfortably in your mouth. He will take impressions and pictures of your gums and surrounding teeth and send them to our partner lab. There, technicians will create restorations from state-of-the-art zirconia. This type of porcelain is extremely strong and has a unique, lifelike sheen. Our lab uses computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology to create dentures that fit the precise measurements of your mouth.

If you choose implant-supported dentures, our team will also carefully plan out the placement of your implant posts. We will use advanced technology, such as digital x-rays, computed tomography CT scans, and cone beam imaging to get a detailed view of your oral structure. Often, we will use the All-on-4® method to provide you with new teeth in a single day. With this technique, we will place four smaller implant posts at angle, minimizing the impact to your surrounding jawbone.

Candidacy and Considerations

If you are missing all or most of your teeth, you are a good candidate for dentures. However, because dentures rest on the gums, you must have enough tissue to provide a base for your restoration. If gum recession has severely impacted your oral structure, Implant and Family Dentistry can perform ridge augmentation. During this procedure, he will graft skin or bone tissue to build up your alveolar ridge and provide an adequate foundation for your new denture.

To receive implant-supported dentures, you must also have enough bone volume to support the implant posts. Our office offers several advanced procedures that may make you a candidate for implants. Bone grafting and sinus lifts are both highly effective treatments that can enhance your bone structure and create room for the implant posts.
